Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel

Between the Louvre and the Tuileries there is the "Place du Carrousel", on which there is once a again a small triumphal arch, the "Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel", a replica of an triumphal arc in Rome. It was constructed 1806-1808 in memory of Napoleons victories as palace-gate for the Tuileries-palace, which doesn't exist any more, and nowadays stands somewhat lost in the void.

Carrousel was some kind of festivity with riders, which had developed from the tournaments of the middle ages.
