Between Landmannarlauger and the Thorsmørk there is an old vulcanic region consisiting of black rocks and overgrown by grey mosses. Only near brooks or in other swampy areas there is another bright green moss species and some grass. This way a very characteristic landscape, which reminds of fantasy novels, forms.
