Polytrichum formosum

The following picture shows the species "Polytrichum formosum", which is common on the whole northern hemisphere. Here in central Europe it is one of the most widespread mosses on slightly acid soils in woods. I took the picture in the "Siebengebirge" (Seven Mountains), a small group of mountains near Bonn (Germany). The typical capsules of the polytrichum-species with 4-6 sharp edges are easy to see.
