I had never looked at a barbed wire more closely and seen how it is built. Here one can see it: Around two continuing, drilled wires, two short wires cut at an angle are wound in regular distances, and so, that their ends stick out. Actually a very simple construction.

The barbed wire on the picture fenced a cow pasture near the lower Sieg (a river in germany).
